Some Brian Madden love “the best VDI / RDSH monitoring solution ever”

We adore Brian Madden (who doesn’t) but over the last week he’s demonstrated the feeling is mutual. He professed his love, not only by playing a juror’s role in awarding Login VSI the Finalist Award for Best of VMworld 2014, Desktop Virtualization and End-User Computing. Yesterday he wrote glowingly about our newest beta product, codenamed Login VUM, on his blog. It’s a monitoring tool (yet it isn’t) and Brian passionately believes this “exactly what's we've needed for the past 15 years.”

Why do Brian and others think Login VUM has qualities that are so special, so… attractive? Login VUM runs simulated users in your production environment and reports real-time on the performance metrics important to your end users (login times, app launch times, etc.). Why is this so important? Monitoring products will tell you what your systems are saying about performance. Login VUM, on the other hand, tells you specifically what your end users are experiencing. It doesn’t matter if your server says it is at 100% CPU capacity. If your end users are still happy, then it doesn’t matter. And why would you performance test with real users?

Brian especially likes that VUM is not trying to be another monitoring product, or a YAM (yet another monitor). The idea for later iterations of the product is you will roll Login VUM into your existing monitoring or reporting tool. So “the best VDI / RDSH monitoring solution ever” is not really a monitor. Either way, whatever it’s named or not named, we love it. Hear more about what Brian Madden and Jeroen van de Kamp say in this video and you can read Brian’s blog post here. And Brian, we love you too.

Scalability testing Parallels Remote Application Server with Login VSI

Recently I went to VMworld in Barcelona where Login VSI had a booth on the expo... While I can’t remember exactly how many conversations I had - there had been so many that I lost my voice on day one. What was new this year is that quite a few people asked if our software is compatible with the solutions from Parallels specifically their Remote Application Server (RAS) (Datasheet). Windows 10 Default File Type Associations and Login VSI

When Login VSI 4.1 was released, the majority of desktops were running Windows 7 and life was easy. We’d set the default filetype for an application and it would simply work. The default and industry standard workloads in Login VSI include launching and using Adobe Reader as part of the virtual user simulation. Because Login VSI doesn’t always know which version of Adobe Reader is installed, or where it’s installed, the workload relies on the file type association (FTA) for .pdf documents to be… Continue Reading

Investigating Online Application Performance with Login PI

As many companies do, we use a CRM system. Recently, I have been getting complaints about our cloud CRM system, Microsoft Dynamics, being slow. I tried to investigate this by shadowing one of our users to see what was wrong. As expected, everything was fast. 15 minutes later, the same user reported slowness again. How could I investigate this without bothering the users? Continue Reading
