One million Login VSI users and what this means for VDI

The Login VSI team is very proud to reach the milestone of 1 million users tested with Login VSI. In 2009, when we created the software to test the scalability of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, we didn’t anticipate that so many businesses shared our quest for deeper and more useful performance knowledge. Now, almost six years later, we have crossed many bridges to become the industry standard for virtualized desktop performance testing for any environment (Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop, VMware Horizon View, Microsoft RDS).

Testing is now mainstream with vendors, enterprises and governments

Notably, vendors like Citrix, VMware, Cisco, and Microsoft use Login VSI as part of their regular development to validate their architectures. (If you attended Citrix Synergy, you may have noticed Validated by Login VSI signs at nearly every vendor booth). While this is important (the industry as a whole benefits), the vast majority of Login VSI’s customers now are enterprises and governments. Meaning, that the value of performance testing is now well-known and using Login VSI is a mainstream virtualized desktop environment best practice.

Proactive performance management

Enterprises have been going beyond the initial use case of scalability testing and use Login VSI to measure capacity, right-size the infrastructure, perform bake offs between vendors and more importantly, predict the impact of any change within a virtualized desktop infrastructure. Most of our customers perform VSI tests on a daily basis, in test or production environments, sometimes with 100,000 users or more. Being proactive about performance improves the quality of service that IT departments can deliver to end users. In other words, the search for high availability goes hand-in-hand with highly productive end users. This is a key to virtualized desktop success and heralds the benefits that were promised in the first place from this approach.

Login VSI: Built by you

How did Login VSI springboard from scalability testing to the many use cases and applications enterprises benefit from today? Our active customer base, members of our community and partners teach us every day how we can improve our product, add functionality, and help them have more confidence in the performance of their virtualized desktop environment. Our stakeholders have shaped us, as the concept of testing using virtual users makes perfect sense—and more and more enterprises around the world agree. Over 700 customers in 49 countries accept Login VSI as a mandatory asset to a successful virtualized desktop deployment.

The checkbox in every virtualized desktop deployment

We are committed to making IT departments successful in virtualized desktops. We believe knowledge and insight in performance is the way to get there. Because we believe so much in testing, our goal at Login VSI is to become a checkbox at any virtualized desktop deployment--on premise, off premise, anywhere. The launch of our newest product Login PI demonstrates we have been listening to our customers. They say they want to know more about what end users are experiencing in their production environments. In this way, the virtual users can help you know before you go (pilot, POC), but also know as you go (once in production), which is essential for continued success. At Login VSI, we are just getting started providing essential software solutions for virtual desktop performance insights. In the name IT departments around the world, we will continue to pursue the best user experience.

Two million users is just around the corner.

Scalability testing Parallels Remote Application Server with Login VSI

Recently I went to VMworld in Barcelona where Login VSI had a booth on the expo... While I can’t remember exactly how many conversations I had - there had been so many that I lost my voice on day one. What was new this year is that quite a few people asked if our software is compatible with the solutions from Parallels specifically their Remote Application Server (RAS) (Datasheet). Windows 10 Default File Type Associations and Login VSI

When Login VSI 4.1 was released, the majority of desktops were running Windows 7 and life was easy. We’d set the default filetype for an application and it would simply work. The default and industry standard workloads in Login VSI include launching and using Adobe Reader as part of the virtual user simulation. Because Login VSI doesn’t always know which version of Adobe Reader is installed, or where it’s installed, the workload relies on the file type association (FTA) for .pdf documents to be… Continue Reading

Investigating Online Application Performance with Login PI

As many companies do, we use a CRM system. Recently, I have been getting complaints about our cloud CRM system, Microsoft Dynamics, being slow. I tried to investigate this by shadowing one of our users to see what was wrong. As expected, everything was fast. 15 minutes later, the same user reported slowness again. How could I investigate this without bothering the users? Continue Reading
