Login VSI delivers performance testing software to validate the performance and functioning of VDI environments, including Citrix XenApp and Citrix XenDesktop. Using Login VSI’s synthetic user approach, we are able to validate VDI environments without disrupting actual production users. Because the Login VSI workloads are based on actual users and have now become the industry standard measurement of end user load, the results of Login VSI simulated users tests are what you would expect from testing production users.

Citrix has been a strong supporter of Login VSI and the value of performance testing from day one. Not only does Citrix support testing for enterprises—Citrix relies on Login VSI for own product benchmarking.

Why is Citrix Workspace Cloud, and specifically Citrix Lifecycle Management, so important to the world of desktop virtualization? Login VSI’s software development and support teams, and our customers, regularly need to build XenApp and XenDesktop environments for testing purposes. Using CLM, combined with the power of the cloud, we are able to build these environments with ease without requiring large infrastructures in our own datacenter.

Most test failures are due to the vast complexities of any given centralized desktop environment, where one wrong setting can cause an environment to stop performing well. CLM and the blueprint approach dramatically ease the process of building these environments. We can now swap, reuse, delete and copy environments after they are used instead of having to be careful so they can also be used in a next project. Developers no longer need to spend their valuable time building these test environments…repeatedly.

We decided to create a Login VSI blueprint for CLM because we see great benefit for joint Citrix and Login VSI customers. If you are looking for a way to quickly prototype a Citrix environment and validate its performance, or you would like to simulate what happens to performance when you push an update or change to your environment, CLM is THE way to go forward.

To summarize, these are the benefits I see:

  • Developers do not have to have in depth knowledge to be able to successfully build Citrix VDI environments
  • Developers do not have to waste time building test labs
  • Support engineers can quickly build test environments to reproduce customer environments

In sum, a great development from Citrix that will sure to improve desktop virtualization as we know it. I predict CLM will be widely used within the Citrix customer community as well as in testing with Login VSI. Learn more about Citrix Lifecycle Management.
