The loss of an industry champion, and a great guy

As individuals and as a company, we mourn the recent loss of our dear colleague John Dodge. John was a champion of Login VSI and, in his role leading the EUC reference architecture program at VMware, we appreciated his candid feedback for improvements as well as nudges in the direction he thought we could grow our position in the desktop virtualization market. He inspired us as a company and reflected back to us what we value to the core: helping IT deliver the best end user experience. While this was very valuable and helped build our company, what I remember about John the person was his ready smile, his quick wit and helpfulness.

I met him for the first time at VMworld in Barcelona last year. He cheerfully suffered through multiple takes on a video interview and we had fun creating what basically amounted to blooper videos. Upon reviewing the footage, I decided the videos could not be used publicly, and I deleted most of them. We held on to this photo. I regret that the videos are lost, but I keep a memory of the spirit of helpfulness, confidence and determination when I remember this and other occasions I have had the fortune of knowing John.

We send our deepest condolences to John’s family as we, among many others, feel this loss.
