Questions From The Field…Answered

How does the Login PI work with Netscaler?

Find out in our new Vlog series: "Questions From The Field…Answered"!

It’s inevitable in the realm of Citrix solutions to be asked if we support Citrix Application Delivery Controller (ADC), or by its more well-known name… Netscaler with our Login PI product. The simple answer is yes, but that “yes” wasn’t always so simple.

Login PI helps to get an end-users’ point of view of application availability and performance. A very common scenario is for a Login PI Launcher to establish a session from a remote location, through the Netscaler or ADC device and to its resource, whether it be a published application or a desktop instance.

In the past we used a custom connector which uses a command line string and a PowerShell file to manage the intricacies of logging in through a Netscaler webpage, before you can get to your resource. This is easy to do for direct StoreFront connections because there are ways to connect to resources that don’t require access through a webpage.

In version 3.5 of Login PI we’ve made this A LOT easier. Just a little Java code, a Netscaler API, cookies and our ReSTful Web API… sounds delicious ????. Now there is no need to use a custom connector or a special script to get this done. It’s stable, resilient and scalable. Right now this works with Netscaler 12.1 or ADC 13.0. I’m sure this method is so intuitive you won’t need the instructions, but if you do just look here. If you are using an older version of Netscaler with Login PI Release 3 or greater, then you can use the old custom connector method.

Below you can see that you really only need to bits of information to connect through Netscaler… and no scripts.

So, in this edition of Questions from the field, I’m providing a quick video demonstration of how we get up and running with Login PI and Netscaler or ADC

Here’s what happens in the video:

  1. Get the Netscaler URL and manually connect to make sure it works. Copy the URL.
  2. Logon through the Netscaler URL to make sure the resources are available to the Login PI User Account you wish to use.
  3. Create a new Login PI 3 environment using the NetScaler connector and answering the fields in the wizard.
  4. Try it out and watch the virtual user do its thing
