Optimizing Virtual Desktop Operations with SCCM and Login AM

Optimizing Virtual Desktop Operations with SCCM and Login AM

It is sometimes said that if you want to be successful in an existing market, your product should not be 10% better but it should be 10 times better than competing products. Virtual desktop environments have this potential when it comes to delivery of Windows applications throughout the enterprise or from the cloud.

The challenges that IT organizations face when managing applications on a virtual desktop platform are quite different from those found in typical desktop environments. While Microsoft SCCM in its core is built for large distributed desktop environments, it doesn’t quite fit the virtual desktop use case.

A recent white paper released by one of our partners Login Consultants describes a number of key areas that need to be addressed in hosted desktop operations and how Login AM can be used as an add-on to (existing) Microsoft SCCM deployments to decrease operational cost and increase speed of delivery, continuity and agility.

Virtual desktop environments require a different management approach compared to traditional servers and desktops. The technical characteristics of virtual desktop environments, the level of automation and the organizational structure required to execute the promise of instant and easy application delivery throughout the enterprise forces organizations to rethink their processes and tools.

Microsoft SCCM is a solid choice but has its limitations, inefficiencies and requires a thorough technical understanding of its capabilities. Login AM is an easy-to-use add-on that removes complexity and the required in-depth scripting or packaging skills. It allows organizations to handle virtual desktops without the need to overhaul their existing infrastructure. Login AM gives virtual desktop administrators an increased level of independence and allows organizations to implement the processes that increase IT productivity and end-user satisfaction, while maintaining existing corporate governance.

Implementing Login AM together with Microsoft SCCM, provides organizations a solid solution for maintaining virtual desktop environments at substantial lower operational cost. Curious to find out how Login AM can help you with SCCM? Contact us for more information.

Scalability testing Parallels Remote Application Server with Login VSI

Recently I went to VMworld in Barcelona where Login VSI had a booth on the expo... While I can’t remember exactly how many conversations I had - there had been so many that I lost my voice on day one. What was new this year is that quite a few people asked if our software is compatible with the solutions from Parallels specifically their Remote Application Server (RAS) (Datasheet). Windows 10 Default File Type Associations and Login VSI

When Login VSI 4.1 was released, the majority of desktops were running Windows 7 and life was easy. We’d set the default filetype for an application and it would simply work. The default and industry standard workloads in Login VSI include launching and using Adobe Reader as part of the virtual user simulation. Because Login VSI doesn’t always know which version of Adobe Reader is installed, or where it’s installed, the workload relies on the file type association (FTA) for .pdf documents to be… Continue Reading

Investigating Online Application Performance with Login PI

As many companies do, we use a CRM system. Recently, I have been getting complaints about our cloud CRM system, Microsoft Dynamics, being slow. I tried to investigate this by shadowing one of our users to see what was wrong. As expected, everything was fast. 15 minutes later, the same user reported slowness again. How could I investigate this without bothering the users? Continue Reading
