Video: Rapid IT Deployment with Login AM Blueprints

Hi, I am Mike and today I need to test a very important application update that just came in. My finance colleagues need this update. In the past, setting up a test environment simply took too long. With pressure from my superiors building up, I would often take my chances and implement the update directly on the production systems manually. And I must admit, I wasn’t always successful. This is where Login AM Blueprints come in.

These blueprints allow me to deploy an entire test environment with only a few mouse clicks. Here’s how it works: I install a fresh instance of Login AM and now I am ready to import our blueprint by selecting the Blueprint import options from the Options menu. Login AM asks me where my blueprint is located. Using the browse button I can locate and select the blueprint I want to deploy. The information panel might contain important information that I need to know about this blueprint before I continue. I have deployed this blueprint many times before, so I am just going to skip this for now.

The following screen shows the content of the blueprint and it asks me if I want to import the software media which is needed to deploy the blueprint.

I am going to import that media since I installed a fresh copy of Login AM. Then, Login AM displays an overview of the required software media. In this case all media is included in the blueprint which is a big timesaver. When media inclusion is not possible, this page will allow me to browse for external media in order to complete the deployment.

Now I need to assign computers to the collections within my blueprint. In this case, I only need to deploy two systems. 90% of all required deployment parameters are hidden from view as they are the same in all my environments. But this page allows me to enter those settings that are specific to my test environment.

I’m almost there. This review panel shows all the choices I made and it asks me if I want to immediately deploy the blueprint. Let’s just go ahead and deploy. Before the actual deployment starts, Login AM will first check the connectivity to the target machines. This may take a while.

When connectivity is okay, we are ready to roll. Collections and packages are created, media is imported and our target systems are deployed. And all that while I’m headed for the coffee making machine… uh I mean that important meeting. And we are finished.

Login AM should have installed all necessary software and created the required security groups in the active directory. Let’s see if we can log on to the system. I am switching over to my VMware View client. I need to add my freshly installed connection server using the Add Server option.

Now let’s see if we can connect to our VMware connection server. I need to enter my username and password. And finally, let me just launch my hosted notepad to verify that my deployment actually works.

So there you have it. VMware Horizon up and running in just a few clicks. Well now it’s time for me to go ahead and start testing the new Internet Explorer plugin.

What our customers are saying

Shai Maskit - Kaminario

“We tested 750 seats so customers can compare Kaminario with solutions from other vendors. It really comes down to delivering the best user experience at the right price point. As soon as we show the solution and that it has been validated by Login VSI customers can rest assured that it will fit the rest of their environment.”

Shai Maskit, Director of Product & Solutions at Kaminario

Maarten Bruijnesteijn - PPG

"We are using Login VSI for hardware scaling. By testing the number of users that can run on our environment, we know the amount of hardware that we will need upfront. We also use Login VSI in our production acceptance process to test changes to the system to evaluate changes to the environment."

Maarten Bruijnesteijn, System Software Analyst at PPG Industries

Tristan Todd - VMware

“Login VSI is my favorite test orchestration and simulation tool for large-scale reference architecture testing. Not only do we use it in our testing, but we work with partners who use Login VSI exclusively, with the idea that you create the most realistic simulated workload at scale, to really test infrastructure and software capabilities. What’s more, getting the results and be able to measure yourself across platforms and across vendor solutions is just fantastic and is unequalled in the industry.”
