Login AM 2017: A Fresh Perspective in Image Management

Login AM 2017: A Fresh Perspective in Image Management

Over the years, many of our Enterprise customers have enjoyed the capabilities of Login AM to help simplify their virtual desktop and hosted application deployments. Recently we have seen a pickup in the frequency of update requirements, like that of Windows 10. These updates present challenges to large organizations, as to stay current, they must put in the time and effort required to update and test these changes. The more time our customers can save in the update process, the more time they have to test the Windows OS updates, for example, to make sure they don’t break crucial line-of-business applications.

In order to improve the ease-of-use and reporting capabilities of Login AM, we bring you Login AM 2017, with a new web-based user interface, a focus on Image Management, System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) integration and some valuable new usage reporting capabilities. Let’s take a quick look at these new features.

Web-based Image Management is as easy as 1, 2, 3

We’ve been hard at work for some time on making Image Management a core feature for Login AM, and with Login AM 2017, the fresh new Web UI brings a wizard-driven model that makes creating and or updating desktop images a snap. In short, this wizard driven interface will help build what we called a Collection, but now call a Recipe. Building or modifying recipes is easy:

  1. Just add any packages you want included in the image (we’ll help you do that too). If you’d like to pull a package from Microsoft SCCM, then you can do that too.
  2. Connect to the hypervisor where you’d like to create and deploy this new VM and define the specs you require: vCPUs, vMemory, storage and networking.
  3. Tell Login AM how you’d like to seal the image.
  4. Sit back and watch Login AM do its thing.

Login AM 2017 Reporting Features

In addition to the Image Management feature our Managed Service Provider customers have asked us to implement reporting that helps them understand system utilization, which is something they might want to be able to charge their customers.

The first reporting feature is Application Usage. This feature provides detailed information regarding the number of users accessing different applications, as well as showing how many individual uses per application, per a given timeframe.

The second reporting feature has more to do with the number of users active on the system—we track session usage and unique users. This feature records the maximum number of concurrent sessions and/or the number of unique users at specific times, per day / month, on your platform. Discover platform usage trends over longer periods while also seeing your usage peaks per day. If you’d like to learn more about this new feature check out Usage Reporting for DaaS providers with Login AM.

Scalability testing Parallels Remote Application Server with Login VSI

Recently I went to VMworld in Barcelona where Login VSI had a booth on the expo... While I can’t remember exactly how many conversations I had - there had been so many that I lost my voice on day one. What was new this year is that quite a few people asked if our software is compatible with the solutions from Parallels specifically their Remote Application Server (RAS) (Datasheet). Windows 10 Default File Type Associations and Login VSI

When Login VSI 4.1 was released, the majority of desktops were running Windows 7 and life was easy. We’d set the default filetype for an application and it would simply work. The default and industry standard workloads in Login VSI include launching and using Adobe Reader as part of the virtual user simulation. Because Login VSI doesn’t always know which version of Adobe Reader is installed, or where it’s installed, the workload relies on the file type association (FTA) for .pdf documents to be… Continue Reading

Investigating Online Application Performance with Login PI

As many companies do, we use a CRM system. Recently, I have been getting complaints about our cloud CRM system, Microsoft Dynamics, being slow. I tried to investigate this by shadowing one of our users to see what was wrong. As expected, everything was fast. 15 minutes later, the same user reported slowness again. How could I investigate this without bothering the users? Continue Reading
