The past six months have been quite busy at Login AM. Since the release of Login AM 2014R2 in May 2014, we have added a number of exciting new features but we have also improved existing features based on your valuable feedback. Today, I am happy to announce the general availability of Login AM 2015.
A lot of standardized Action Items are already included in Login AM. But we cannot think about everything. The good news is that you can easily extend the functionality on your own. Everything in Login AM is registered via a GUID. So the first thing you need is a GUID, but how do you get one?
It has been six months since we released Login AM 2014. Today we are proud to announce the availability of Login AM 2014R2. Hello, my name is Mike! Are you getting tired of keeping your images up to date? When we finished the design of our current infrastructure we were convinced we would only need one, maybe two, operating system images. But after a while I was maintaining several images. I had users with specific operating system requirements, others that needed a very specific version of internet explorer and there were even users that required additional hardening.
Hello, my name is Mike. My colleagues used to come up to me and ask: can you quickly provide us with some servers for our new project? My colleagues were often disappointed because it just took too long. I wanted to help them, but they just didn’t realize how much time went into installing and configuring the required software. I was looking for a way to quickly build servers according to our company’s standard but without having to start from scratch. Login AM showed me the way.
Earlier this year we announced the general availability of Login AM 2014. In this blog I would like to share two features of Login AM 2014 with you that you might not be aware of, but can be very useful: tracking data reset dialog and automatic application publication.

Meet Mike. Mike is a happy system administrator, but life hasn’t always been easy. He used to spend most of his work days solving user issues. Every update and application had to be manually installed. There were lots of different settings and well… the documentation wasn’t exactly up-to-date either.
In the environment of our customer we were experiencing issues with WMI when using the Login AM 2012 maintenance framework (S4Matic). WMI operation on Windows Server 2008R2 has been, to say the least, not great. Microsoft has released a list of hotfixes for different operating systems to fix WMI operation.
Before talking about automated maintenance windows in a hosted desktop environment we need to take a look at the different types of hosted desktops. On the one hand we have Server Based Computing (SBC) and on the other we have Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). Both hosted desktop types benefit from some form of automated maintenance window, but for different reasons and with different solutions. In this post I will focus on SBC. Saving VDI maintenance for a future post.
