How to connect Login PI to Netscaler in 3 easy steps

I often get the question how to connect Login PI to NetScaler. With Login PI it is possible to make custom connectors. With a custom connector, you can let Login PI connect to almost anything that can launch to your desktop. For now I will only focus on NetScaler (other examples are AWS workspaces, Client F5 load balancer or Spice). In this blog I will explain how you can integrate the connector provided by Citrix in three easy steps.

STEP 1: CREATE THE PROFILE

Within the configuration page you can find the profile manager. Create a new profile with the Citrix StoreFront profile type.

Select your environment settings and workload.

Create a connection and add the user credentials that can log on to NetScaler. In the connection parameters tab, you can add the NetScaler URL instead of the StoreFront URL.

In the “Advanced Settings”, you should change the command line to use the PowerShell script provided by Citrix:

"C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe" -ExecutionPolicy ByPass -File "C:\Program Files\Login VSI\Login PI Launcher\Connectors\SFLauncher.ps1" -SiteURL {url} -UserName {username}@{domain} -Password "{password}" -ResourceName "{resource}"

Note: Please be aware, that if you do not use the default installation location you might need to adjust the command line.

Before configuring the launcher, you can already enable the schedule and configure the interval to finish the configuration of the profile.

STEP 2: CONFIGURING THE LAUNCHER

The second step is to configure your launchers. For this, you have to install the Login PI Launcher software. Within the profile manager you can find the installation files:

Follow the launcher installation instructions.

After you installed the launcher you have to add the PowerShell script to the Login PI Launcher folder. As configured in the example above, you should place it in the “C:\Program Files\Login VSI\Login PI Launcher\Connectors” folder.

Note: In the latest release of StoreFront, the Logoff link HTML Id attribute changed. You can solve this by changing the SFLogOffLinkId variable in the PowerShell script from:

Set-Variable -Name SFLogOffLinkId -Value "userdetails-logoff" -Option Constant -Scope Script

To:

Set-Variable -Name SFLogOffLinkId -Value "menuLogOffBtn" -Option Constant -Scope Script

Before starting the launcher, please make sure that it meets all the requirements. Disable UAC, add your NetScaler URL to the trusted site zones and enable protected mode:

STEP 3: START AND APPROVE YOUR LAUNCHER

Now you configured the launcher the last step would be to start the Login PI Launcher executable. Once started it will try to authenticate to the Login PI Server. Approve the launcher in the Login PI Dashboard and you are ready to go!
