Connection Wizard Question

First time user here running Login VSI 4.0.1 Express against a XenApp 6.5 farm and have a question about the connection wizard. When setting up the connection and selecting Citrix XenApp as the connection type, it asks to define an application. The manual states that if nothing is specified that the desktop of the XenApp server will be launched, but the wizard does not allow you to proceed until you enter a string. That aside, I'm curious what the recommended practice is for what application to publish when running XenApp load testing (seamless apps and not desktops are the farm use case). Is it recommended to publish any app, and then Login VSI will launch whatever it wants within that session? Or do you need to publish a desktop? Or is the Citrix XenApp option the wrong option if you are trying to use the medium profile within the Express edition which runs various apps?

Hi Aw505,

Its recommended to publish a desktop and use the name of that desktop when setting up the connection.

Thanks. That helped.

For others in the future, it would be great to add some text in the admin guide that talks to what is recommended as it isn't completely clear. Also, a suggestion for a future patch....allow clicking next without filling in the application name (or auto populate it with Desktop). Either that, or don't mention in the documentation that a Desktop will be launched if nothing is specified as it doesn't allow you to not specify anything.

By the way, there is a bug in the wizard that doesn't allow you to configure an XML port higher than 100. It resets to 100 as soon as you enter in a higher number. You can get around this by manually editing the connection string after you're out of the wizard but I figured I'd mention it as many people commonly remap XML port to 8080 or another port per Citrix recommendations.

Will be added to the docs, The XML bug has been forwarded to the developers and will be resolved in a upcoming patch.
