I am using version 4.08.233 and some of my sessions get stuck at different places and programs. Two of the errors are attached to this topic, another error was something like 'couldn't open print dialog' from notepad.. Out of 50 session around 18 eventually get through successfully. Any idea where I might start looking? Platform is vsphere 5.5 / VSAN beta.

What language is the operating system and Office? I suspect it is not English. If it isn't, please make sure that you change the workload language in the management console under workload > settings.

Thanks for your response Dennis. The language of the OS is English, the language of Office is Dutch. I have tried to change the loadset language to Dutch, but that gave the same or even worse results. Could it be that mixing languages like this is not possible/supported?

Pete,

It is supported: only not for the Express version (yet).
I suggest to keep both OS/Office one and the same Language for now.

Does this make sense?

Well, I guess I shouldn't be looking into the mouth of a given horse ;)
I will re-install office and report back how it went.

I just tried a new run now with both the OS and Office in English. The results are definitely better but still 11 out of 50 sessions got stuck with the notepad error (VSI Timer: VSINotepad [Notepad] did not become active. Login VSI will stop executing). All other errors are gone.

Any idea how I can increase my success rate?

Hi Pete,

Do you interact with the testing machines during a test?

PS, i sent you a private email to follow up.

Interacting with the machines could have been part of the problem. Another thing that may have been of influence is low response times from the underlying storage. Since we are using vmware vsan, reads sometimes come from the low speed spindles and when launching 50 sessions within a short time span, response times as long as 1200 ms occur within the storage path.

This issues can be considered solved, thanks for the help.

Folks,

It looks like since I upgraded, I encounter the same issue as reported here:

I upgraded from 4.05 -> 4.08 at the 17th of December 2013. (it's 4.0.8.233 Pro)
My last good testrun was 11 December. The first bad testrun was December 20th:

I used to have 89 sessions setup successfully, however now it's only around 70.

Today I decided to take a look into this, and found the attached message in lots of sessions:
Note that in all cases I witnessed:
1) Login VSI Notepad has actually been started, and document NotepadDoc.txt is open.
2) Neither the Error dialog or the LoginVsi Notepad application windows have the focus
3) After a while the session present a login screen "locked":

MS office version: professional plus 2010 14.0.6029.1000 installed 24 July 2013.
Language: English
Management console: Workload configured for Office 2010 (as far as I remember this has not changed).

Workload and engine debugging switched off, perhaps I can turn this one to get more info.
I found there is a 4.0.9 patch, however I don't recognize this from the release note. Should I try the patch?

thanks!
