Login VSI trial now has full functionality (hooray!)

It’s true, we have some great news for those evaluating Login VSI software. Until last week, the Login VSI trial was limited in functionality. Now the Login VSI Express version is a fully-functional Login VSI trial as of version 4.1.3.

As an evaluator you are now able to:

  1. Select all workloads for trial runs. This includes the Task worker, Office worker, Knowledge worker, and Power user.
  2. Personalize the workloads. You can now add your own applications (SAP, Cerner, EPIC, etc.), remove applications or parts of the workload, run tests without Microsoft Office, or run tests that you have designed from scratch.
  3. Use all of the functionality available in the analyzer including the VSImax overview, application start times, logon times, and external data (overlays from PerfMon, esxtop, or storage systems, for example).

The ability to experience the full functionality of the Analyzer is especially important to evaluators. External data overlays are very informative and will clearly show what is causing VSImax to peak. For example, check out this test I have executed with Microsoft Office 2013 on a Windows 8, 2vcpu VDI environment. Doing the normal analysis it is clear that the maximum number of users I can run on this environment is 114 but of course I want to know what’s really behind this bottleneck.

To be able to determine the source of the bottleneck, I have let esxtop collect additional information during the test. With a few clicks, I can now overlay all hypervisor information like CPU usage, storage latency, and memory usage. In doing so, I can clearly see that CPU was the bottleneck for this test.

I believe that this helps those of you evaluating Login VSI to see all the value we offer and makes it easier to implement Login VSI into your production environment. Have I convinced you to try Login VSI right away? Great. May I recommend to request your free trial or if you do not want to start testing right away the demo videos.

Windows 10 – 1909 performance results and a look ahead at 2004

Is it just me or does Windows 10 2004 just not feel right as a name? Regardless of my opinion on that, Microsoft will release this 20H1 build in April of this year. But most organizations today are not going to implement this new version right away. Market research by VDI Like a Pro shows that most enterprises today are running Windows 10 1803, or 1809.
