Seamless Personal Desktop Migration: From Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop to Windows 365 with Hydra by Login VSI Hydra

March 25, 2026

As organizations evaluate their long-term end-user computing (EUC) strategy, many are asking a key question:

What’s the cleanest path from Azure Virtual Desktop personal pools to Windows 365 Cloud PCs, without disrupting the end-user experience?

With Hydra, the answer is simple.

Hydra from Login VSI simplifies the process of moving users from Azure Virtual Desktop to Windows 365 Cloud PCs by automating the migration workflow through integration with the Windows 365 migration API from Microsoft, launched on January 12 as part of our continued commitment to the VDI community. Administrators can simply select an assigned Azure Virtual Desktop personal session host, initiate the migration, and Hydra handles the process of capturing the setting the Windows 365 user setting to use Snapshots, and provision when the process is complete.

The Challenge: Migrating Personal Desktops

Personal Azure Virtual Desktop session hosts are typically tightly bound to a single user. They contain:

  • User-installed applications
  • Customized settings
  • Line-of-business tools
  • Environment configurations

When organizations decide to migrate to Windows 365 as their end-state platform, preserving that personalized experience becomes critical.

Traditional migration paths can be manual, time-consuming, and risky.

Hydra changes that.

Introducing Hydra Migration to Windows 365

Hydra’s migration tool enables administrators to capture a snapshot of a personal Azure Virtual Desktop session host and then uses the Windows 365 migration API to provision a Windows 365 Cloud PC using that snapshot. The Hydra tool then automatically cleans up the migration artifacts afterward.

All from within the Hydra interface.

  • No complex scripting.
  • Support for bulk operations.
  • No manual image manipulation.
  • No risky user transitions.

How It Works (It’s Really This Simple)

Step 1: Select the Azure Virtual Desktop Personal Session Host

Within Hydra, choose the session host that is assigned to a specific user.

Step 2: Click “Migrate to Windows 365”

Hydra initiates the snapshot process and prepares the machine for migration using the Windows 365 migration API. During this preparation it removes Azure Virtual Desktop- specific agents and adds the Hydra Agent for real-time performance information and fast on-machine actions.

Step 3: Configure Windows 365 User Settings

To configure Windows 365 User Settings to use the newly created snapshot, simply add or update the configuration for that user, in Hydra, that tells Windows 365:

“Provision this Cloud PC using the migration snapshot.”

That’s it.

When the Cloud PC is created, it uses the captured snapshot, delivering the same applications, configuration, and personalized experience the user had in Azure Virtual Desktop.

Step 4: Automatic Cleanup

Once the Cloud PC is successfully provisioned, Hydra automatically deletes the migration snapshot.

No leftover artifacts.
No manual cleanup.
No storage waste.

What This Means for IT Administrators

Migration at Scale

Whether you’re migrating:

  • 10 users
  • 100 users
  • Or thousands of personal desktops

Hydra allows you to standardize and scale the migration process.

Because migrations are tied to user settings and provisioning policies, you can:

  • Batch migrations
  • Control timing
  • Reduce operational risk
  • Maintain governance

This makes Hydra ideal for enterprises planning a strategic transition to Windows 365.

Preserving the User Experience

One of the biggest fears in any virtualization migration is user disruption.

With Hydra:

  • The user’s desktop state is preserved
  • Applications remain intact
  • Configuration stays consistent
  • The transition feels seamless

From the user’s perspective, they simply move to a Cloud PC that looks and behaves the same as their previous personal Azure Virtual Desktop.

That continuity builds trust in IT and accelerates adoption.

Supporting the VDI Community’s Next Chapter

Login VSI has long supported the virtualization ecosystem, across Microsoft, Citrix, and VMware. As Microsoft continues to invest in Windows 365 the future of the Cloud PC as the end-state for cloud desktops, enterprises are actively seeking reliable migration paths.

Hydra delivers exactly that.

By partnering with Microsoft on the Windows 365 migration API, Login VSI ensures that organizations have:

  • A practical transition strategy
  • Enterprise-grade orchestration
  • Reduced operational complexity
  • A clear path forward

We understand that migrations aren’t just technical projects, they are strategic transformations.

Hydra helps you execute them confidently.

The Bottom Line

Migrating personal Azure Virtual Desktop session hosts to Windows 365 Cloud PCs no longer requires complex re-platforming or risky rebuilds.

With Hydra:

  • Select the session host
  • Click “Migrate to Windows 365”
  • Apply a Windows 365 user setting
  • Provision
  • Done

Simple.
Scalable.
Enterprise-ready.

If your organization is planning to move to Windows 365, Hydra makes that journey smoother, while preserving everything your users rely on.
