    Windows 10 vs. Windows 11

Windows 10 vs. Windows 11: The last operating system from Microsoft? Surprise, it is not.

The last time Microsoft released an entire operating system was in 2015. It was that year that we were assured that this would be the last version of Windows.

Microsoft was going to continue to update this version of Windows into perpetuity, FOREVER. Now in 2021, that turns out to not be the case. As of October 5th, 2021, the world will forever change with the next version – Windows 11. Regardless of your feelings on the matter, it reaffirms the position that Login VSI has held, which is that there will be changes in the IT (Information Technology) world and that the pace of change will increase.

So, what is changing in Windows? What does this mean for you, the reader? Let us dive into some changes:

    • New Interface
    • Android App Integration
    • Persona-based virtualization

All that sounds good, but from where I am standing, there is not much here from an Enterprise IT perspective, at least initially. Whether we NEED android apps to be part of the Windows ecosystem could be debated endlessly, but I am not seeing the immediate return for now.

In exchange for all of this, you will get a HIGHER requirement from a minimum spec perspective. Also, the enhanced visualizations, if not being offloaded to vGPU or GPUs will be made up in CPU (Central Processing Unit) cycles.

All of this into consideration, I am sure that Microsoft has done a significant amount of due diligence in performance optimization. However, to understand what this means for YOU yesterday is the time to start thinking about testing. Most organizations are rolling changes out on average around every 70 days. Will Windows 11 be another one of these instances of change being expected within the period? Time will tell.
